Congratulations to Linda Stern Kass, the 2008 honoree of the Julian Sinclair Smith Award for Lifelong Learning. This award was presented at our Celebration of Learning on November 7th.
Ms. Kass has received a number of awards including the 1997 Robert S. Crane, Jr. Trusteeship Award from Leadership Columbus and the 1999 Woman of Achievement Award from the YWCA. She was named Bexley’s “Citizen of the Year” in 2001 and received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Capital University (2003). Ms. Kass is a strong advocate of education, the arts and early childhood development and has played a leadership role in a number of civic and community organizations over the past two decades, including her appointment by Governor Strickland in 2008 to serve a nine-year term on the OSU Board of Trustees.
The Larry D. Black Fund was established in September 2002 upon the retirement of Larry D. Black as Director of the Columbus Metropolitan Library system. The fund honors Mr. Black's devotion and commitment to CML and is intended to purchase materials that serve the most severe at risk and/or underprivileged youth in the community. New gifts to the fund are welcome.
